Join the Band (Airdrie Scots Pipes and Drums)

The Airdrie Scots Pipes and Drums (ASPD) is a “street” (non competition) band .  The band as a whole is currently playing in a grade 5-4 range, and the pipe section in a 4-3 range.  All pipers and drummers are welcome to join us.  We are also looking for Brass and Reed players to augment us.

The band is designed to have two levels – parade band and performance band.  At this time all members are in both levels.  The parade band plays Massed Band tunes and similar level marches as well as a couple of slow aires/marches.  The performance band adds March-Strathspey-Reel medleys, as well as Jig Sets and Hornpipe sets to the mix.

The Band practices Sunday afternoons, usually from 2-4.  We occasionally adjust our schedule depending on member availability.

Occasionally we hold an extra full band practice the Thursday or Friday evening or Saturday afternoon before a parade/performance as needed.

In addition, we have a sub-band inspired by the Red Hot Chili Pipers that we are calling “Bagpipe Rock”.

Join us by emailing us at pipemajor@airdriescots.ca (checked daily) or phone/SMS +1-587-600-9401 (checked occasionally).

Note: Membership in the Airdrie Gaelic Society is automatic with joining the band.

Membership fees are set at $180/year for the band.  When you attend performances and parades you receive a credit towards next year’s fees, so most members only pay the first year.
