Time is running out

If you have already attended one of our Robbie Burns events, we hope you remember it as fondly as we do! This year we are holding our event on the 8th of February.

Our regular priced tickets for the evening is $65 and there is a discount for groups of 5 or more! Because we need to firm up our numbers for the caterer, we need to know that you will be attending sooner than later. Therefore tickets are on sale ONLY until the 2nd of February.

We are once again fortunate to have the Highland Dancers return to perform (weren’t they adorable?). Of course the Airdrie Scots Pipes and Drums will also be performing a new repertoire. But as a bonus, we will also be having solo-ists, and Canadian Step Dancers performing.

We will be holding our traditional Roast Beef dinner buffet. And of course there will be Haggis!

You may purchase your tickets by the following methods:

  • speak with a band member about purchasing tickets via cash or cheque.
  • phone our treasurer(+1-587-600-0022)
  • email our treasurer at treasurer@airdriescots.ca specifying how many tickets
    • Phone and email orders can be paid for through Credit Card, Debit or e-transfer (treasurer@airdriescots.ca).

Note we have to have the money in hand before we count the tickets for the caterer (End of Day Feb 2nd).

Happy Birthday Robbie Burns!

Tomorrow (Jan 25th) is the birth day of Scotland’s National Poet Robbie Burns.  In celebration of this cultural icon, groups around the world will be holding ceremonies.

The Airdrie Gaelic Society is no different.  This year, our Robbie Burns event is on Feb 8th, and tickets can be purchased on our website.

We will be having a traditional meal of Beef, Neeps and Tatties.  The Airdrie Scots Pipes and Drums will perform, as will some Highland Dancers and Canadian Step Dancers.  In addition we will have the Address to the Haggis, some poetry readings, and some of our musicians will perform solo and duet numbers.

We hope you will join us!

Scottish Culture presentation at Airdrie Middle School

The Airdrie Scots Pipes and Drums sent members to the Ecole Airdrie Middle School today to be presenters about Scottish Culture.

Pipe Major Kevin Fraser, Piper Grace and Snare Drummer Colby spoke in 4 sessions to a total of 8 classes.  We spoke on the clan system, history of tartan, the full kilt vs the modern kilt (and separate plaid) etc.

We also played a couple of tunes for each session, and then spoke about the parts and characteristics of our instruments.

We at the Airdrie Gaelic Society and the Airdrie Scots Pipes and Drums would like to wish you a Happy Holidays and Season’s Greetings!

It has been an exciting year for us.  We performed in parades this summer as we normally do.  We had a few new musicians join us this year.  And we held our largest ever Robbie Burns event last January, such that we outgrew the venue.

We look forward to the coming year where we hope to have an even larger Robbie Burns event (tickets on sale now) as well as our regular performances and parades.  We also intend to hold a few practices in places like Nose Creek Park open to the public.

For this year we have set a fundraising goal to be able to provide partial scholarships for members of the band to attend a week long Pipe and Drums summer camp.

We thank you for your past, current, and future support of the Society.

 

Early Bird Pricing ends Sunday!

If you have been following our twitter or Facebook pages, or read the last email sent to you, you would have already heard! But if you haven’t, my fellow bandsmen and I would like to bring to your attention the fact that our event has been scheduled (Feb 8th), the venue booked (Apple Creek Golf Course), the caterer hired and the menu set.

If you’ve attended in the last few years, you know that the roast beef is to die for, and the salads, potatoes, cooked veggies and dessert are no less delicious.

I don’t want you to miss out on this buffet dinner. Therefore I am saving a seat for you at the table. Because you haven’t sent an email telling me that you are unable to attend this year, or that you aren’t interested in a Roast Beef dinner and seeing the entertainment I have lined up, I will keep sending you reminders.

Tickets are $65 a person. There are group (5+ people) discounts, as well as early bird pricing (available only until 22nd Dec 2018). Ticket sales ends on February 1st 2020.

Robbie Burns 2020

The Airdrie Gaelic Society is hosting our 6th Annual Robbie Burns Dinner and Performance on Saturday February 8th 2020.

This year we are hosting at the Apple Creek Golf Course, located at 11064 Township Rd 275, Rocky View No. 44, AB T4B 4M8 (just head north out of Airdrie on main street)

We have an excellent lineup of performers this year. You will get to watch and hear:

  • the Airdrie Scots Pipes and Drums
  • Canadian Step Dancers.
  • Highland Dancers,
  • Scottish Country dancers,
  • pipe solo-ists
  • A guest group

The menu you will be presented is:

  • Roast Beef with au-jus and/or horseradish
  • salad
  • Neeps
  • Tatties
  • Assorted Squares
  • Buns and butter
  • Haggis

It is the most wonderful time of the year! Not only is it Winter Solstice, Christmas, Hanukkah and other holidays, The Airdrie Gaelic Society’s Robbie Burns Dinner and Performance has been scheduled.
